Shears Do More With Less
Genesis Attachments’ new line of XP MAXX mobile shears give users more power on smaller machines. The shears have much larger cylinders and an increased cylinder stroke, resulting in greater power without the need for a larger base machine.

The MAXX model comes in two sizes: the GXP660 MAXX, for material handlers in the 70,000-pound class, and the GXP990 MAXX, for 100,000-pound base machines. The 660 MAXX provides the cutting power generally found in shears used on 100,000-pound handlers, and the 990 MAXX affords a cutting power generally found on shears mounted on 125,000-pound machines, the company states. Both models feature Genesis’ patented bolt-on piercing tip, dual guide blades, and four identical, four-way indexable blades.

Thermo Adds Small-Spot, Light Element Capabilities
Thermo Electron Corp.’s new NITON XLt 797X analyzer features a smaller X-ray spot than any other portable XRF analyzer, the company says, allowing on-site screening of polymers, solders, and electronic compounds. The XLt 797X uses new, proprietary X-ray tube technology coupled with a color video camera to identify, analyze, and record the image together with the chemical analysis of an individual component.

Also new from Thermo Electron is the NITON XLt 898He nondestructive, portable analysis tool for light element content--including aluminum, magnesium, phosphorus, and silicon--in aluminum and titanium alloys, nickels, superalloys, stainless steels, and more. The XLt 898He system fills the interior of the XLt’s measurement head with pure helium, purging atmospheric air from the X-ray analysis path, allowing light element X-rays to contact the XLt’s high-resolution X-ray detector. This allows operators to measure light-element alloy content with the same analyzer that they use to test high-temperature alloys.
