Alter Trading Corp. (St. Louis) has hired Tim Bernstein as vice president of operations, with responsibility for the company’s facilities in West Burlington and Davenport, Iowa, as well as Peoria and Quincy, Ill. Most recently, Bernstein was general manager of River Metals Recycling LLC. (Louisville, Ky.). Prior to that post, he was general manager of JAX Can Buyers (Jacksonville, Fla.) and a purchasing agent at London Iron & Metal (Atlanta).

WeRecycle! Inc. (Meriden, Conn.), an electronics recycler, has hired James Hogan III as its first director of government affairs. Hogan, who has more than 18 years’ experience as the recycling director of Westchester County, N.Y., will work with local municipal, county, state, and national agencies to forward electronics recycling initiatives and legislation.

Garney Scott III has been promoted to president of Scepter Inc. (Waverly, Tenn.). In his 12 years with the company, Scott has held a variety of positions, including vice president of operations for the past four years. He also brings broad professional experience to his new role thanks to his previous work for firms such as Eastman Kodak, Exxon, Andersen Consulting, and Webb & Shirley, an industrial engineering consulting company.

TST Inc. (Fontana, Calif.) has added two staff—Eric Henkelman as a regional account manager and Chisa Ueda as purchasing account manager. Henkelman, based in Dallas, will purchase scrap in Texas and the southern U.S. region. Most recently, Henkelman operated his own company, United Metals LLC (Detroit). Prior to that, he was a manager in the nonferrous department for Toyota Tsusho America and vice president of sales for Continental Aluminum. Ueda will acquire and maintain scrap suppliers for the firm’s Fontana plant. For the previous nine years, she worked for Honda Trading America.

Hydro Aluminum (Linthicum, Md.) has hired Allan Annis as operations manager for its extruded products facility in Belton, S.C. He will focus on enhancing the plant’s manufacturing effectiveness and expanding its extrusion and fabrication capabilities. Annis has held various management positions in the manufacturing sector over the past 25 years, including stints with Westinghouse Electric, Rockwell Automation, and Ingersoll Rand. Most recently, he was general manager of the Athens, Ga., facility of Power Partners Inc.

Metso Texas Shredder Inc. (San Antonio, Texas) has promoted Denny Lawrence from general sales manager—shredders to vice president, sales and marketing. Lawrence has more than 33 years of experience in shredding and scrap processing, including previously managing a scrap facility. He has worked for Metso Texas Shredder for the past XX years, most recently serving as general sales manager—shredders. Previously, he was a regional sales manager for the firm, covering the north central United States and Ontario.

In related news, Metso Texas Shredder has promoted Mike McGlothlin, a XX-year employee, from project manager and installation specialist to regional sales manager for the northeastern United States. He will represent the firm’s shredders, shears, and balers as well as use his extensive technical background to assist customers.

Andreas Ernst, an eight-year employee at Sennebogen Maschinenfabrik GmbH’s manufacturing plant in Straubing, Germany, has joined the company’s North American operation, Sennebogen LLC (Charlotte, N.C.). At Sennebogen, Ernst has developed an expertise in a number of special applications, has seen a wide variety of machine configurations, and has helped develop customer-driven solutions. In his new post, Ernst will work closely with the company’s North American regional managers, among other duties.

LBX Co. LLC (Lexington, Ky.) has appointed Rob Brittain as product manager in charge of continuing development of products for the earthmoving, forestry, and material handling industries. Brittain, who has 20 years of industry experience, has worked for LBX for the past six years, beginning as a sales training manager and most recently serving as marketing communications manager. Amy Lindon, LBX’s publicity/sales promotions specialist for the past three years, has succeeded Brittain as marketing communications manager. She will handle promotional campaigns, literature, trade shows and conventions, company logos, and sales training.

Barry Sheppard has joined The U.S. Shredder and Castings Group (Brookhaven, Miss.) as East Coast regional manager. Working from Charlotte, N.C., he will coordinate sales and service for the Mid-Atlantic states, New England, and eastern Canada. Previously Sheppard served as a regional sales manager for Metso Texas Shredder Inc.

CONTECH Stormwater Solutions Inc. (West Chester, Ohio) has hired Eric Strahan as stormwater consultant for Riverside and Orange counties in California. Strahan will use his 15 years of  technical sales experience in analytical, process, and test instrumentation to help customers identify the most cost-effective CONTECH solution for their situation. Most recently Strahan was a technical sales representative for Anton Paar USA, where he sold laboratory instrumentation.

John “Jack” Wondowski, chief operating officer of PC Scale Inc. (Oxford, Pa.), has retired after more than 20 years with the company. Wondowski, who cofounded PC Scale, created its first DOS-based waste and recycling industry software and has installed more than 300 scale-house software systems.

PC Scale also has hired Kenneth Biggs as its first chief financial officer, with responsibility for strategic management and direction of the firm’s financial issues. Biggs, who has more than 14 years of experience in the waste and recycling industry, most recently served as controller for Waste Corporation of America.

Martin Abbott, formerly president and publisher of American Metal Market LLC (New York), has become chief executive of the London Metal Exchange, replacing Simon Heale. In the past 24 years, Abbott has held various executive positions in the publishing and metals industries, including a previous post with the LME as marketing director.
