The Northeast Recycling Council (Brattleboro, Vt.) and the Northeast Waste Management Officials’ Association (Boston) have published two new guides to recycling end markets in the Northeast. End-Markets for Used Tires in the Northeast, published in October, contains a list of 33 companies that haul or process end-of-life tires or produce tire-derived fuel.
Recycling Businesses in the NERC Region that Process or Use Post-Consumer “Blue Bin” Materials after MRF Processing, published in November, is a directory of more than 140 businesses that process or use postconsumer recycled paper, plastic, glass, cartons, steel, and aluminum.
NERC’s Glass Committee also published two new resources in October to increase understanding of the glass recycling value chain in the Northeast. The Glass Recovery Hierarchy ranks common uses for glass according to their environmental benefits, from refilling bottles at the top of the hierarchy to crushing for use as aggregate at the bottom. The Glass Bottle & Fiberglass Manufacturers’ Use of Cullet report compiles manufacturers’ responses to a survey on their cullet supply and use. Visit nerc.org or www.newmoa.org.
