Citing negative market conditions and the COVID-19 pandemic, Grede (Southfield, Mich.) will close its automotive castings foundry in Columbiana, Ala., on Aug. 10 and lay off 94 employees.
Grede had announced in June it would close another foundry, in Waukesha, Wis., on July 1. It recently acquired that foundry from the Renaissance Manufacturing Group. Grede says it will reallocate the Waukesha foundry’s work among its other plants in Browntown, Liberty, and Reedsburg, Wis., and Biscoe, N.C. With these closures, Grede will be operating nine facilities in Alabama, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, North Carolina, and Wisconsin, it says. Visit www.grede.com.
