Manufacturer Takes Environmental, Social, Governance Actions

Roll-off trailer manufacturer Benlee (Romulus, Mich.) installed solar panels and has taken other actions that support its commitment to environmental, social, and governance principles, it announced in June.
The two solar arrays from Powerhome Solar, which cost $500,000, will offset the power it purchases for manufacturing, engineering, and office areas, the company says.

Benlee also has made SmartWay verified tires standard on all its trailers. SmartWay is a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency program to verify that tires offer low rolling resistance, which can reduce fuel costs and nitrogen oxides emissions by 3% or more, the EPA says. Benlee promotes auto tire inflation systems as well, which maintain optimum tire pressure to reduce fuel use and increase tire life. This also reduces the tire’s carbon footprint, it says.

Other actions the company has taken in support of its ESG commitments include raising its minimum wage to $15 an hour for entry-level employees and implementing a monthly bonus structure for all employees. It also advocates for national policies that “grow the economy faster while still protecting people and the environment,” it says. Visit
