Foundry Donates Decontamination Kits to California Hospitals

AB&I Foundry (Oakland, Calif.) has donated portable decontamination kits to four California hospitals to help sanitize personal protective equipment and other gear used during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The project is a collaboration between AB&I Foundry, which produces cast iron pipe and fittings from scrap metal; MiraCosta College Technology Career Institute; the California Metals Coalition (El Dorado Hills, Calif.); and Alameda County Assemblyman Rob Bonta.

Highland Hospital, Alameda Hospital, San Leandro Hospital and Roots Community Health Center in Oakland received the kits, which can sterilize objects in less than four minutes, the hospital says. They use a germicidal ultraviolet system, which plugs into an outlet and uses UV-C light to kill bacteria, viruses, fungi, and protozoa without using chemicals, AB&I says.
