Balcones Resources Acquires Florida MRF

Balcones Resources (Austin, Texas) has acquired materials recovery facility operator Single Stream Recyclers (Sarasota, Fla).
The acquired company will operate as SSR, a Balcones Resources Co., according to Balcones.

The acquisition will help Balcones expand into new markets and incorporate new technology, the company says. Single Stream Recyclers’ Sarasota MRF uses 14 robots from AMP Robotics (Louisville, Colo.) as well as artificial intelligence technology and optical sorters to process recycling from single-stream residential and commercial clients. It is Florida’s first MRF to use AI technology, Balcones says. Balcones operates MRFs in Austin and Dallas in Texas, and in Little Rock, Ark.

The acquisition is Balcones’ first since Closed Loop Partners (New York) obtained an 80% ownership stake in the company in 2019, Balcones says. The acquisition will help expand Balcones’ processing ability by about 100,000 tons a year, says Sarah Kaylor, the company’s director of sales and marketing. SSR’s staff of about 90 people, including SSR founders John Hansen and Eric Konik, will remain with the company. Hansen and Konik will be in charge of business development and acquisition opportunities, Kaylor says. Visit
