Companies Launch Mail-In System to Recycle Six-Pack Rings

Packaging producer Hi-Cone Worldwide (Itasca, Ill.) has launched RingRecycleMe, a program to help consumers recycle the low-density polyethylene rings it manufactures to hold together aluminum beverage containers.

Using a prepaid shipping label, consumers mail the ring carriers to the Ring Leader Recycling Program. Recycler Avangard Innovative (Houston) has teamed up with Hi-Cone to recycle the carriers and turn them into postconsumer resin pellets, which Hi-Cone will use in the production of its RingCycles packaging.

The RingRecycleMe program is available to residents of the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Spain, and Mexico. Residents of the United States and Canada can also recycle their ring carriers at retail locations that accept LDPE plastics, Hi-Cone says. Visit
