The Turkish Ministry of Environment and Urban Planning has limited paper and plastic scrap imports, requiring Turkish producers to use more material collected domestically, the Bureau of International Recycling reports.
Turkey announced Sept. 3 that it is limiting paper and plastic scrap import quotas to a maximum of 50% of the production capacity of consuming facilities. The recycling industry and the ministry had agreed to a quota of 80% in December 2019, BIR says. The environment ministry plans to reevaluate the new import quota “in the following years” by taking into account the domestic recycling collection rates, according to a translated version of the ministry’s announcement.
