CarbonLITE Holdings (Dallas) has started production at its new plant in Reading, Pa.
The company says the new facility is the largest stand-alone bottle-to-bottle recycling facility in the world, capable of processing up to 140 million pounds of postconsumer PET each year. It plans to produce about 90 million pounds of food-grade rPET pellets each year, the equivalent of about 2.5 billion rPET bottles. The $80 million, 270,000-square-foot plant uses advanced robotic systems, it says.
CarbonLITE says the facility is near major rPET customers’ facilities, including Nestle Waters North America, Coca-Cola, Keurig Dr Pepper, and PepsiCo. It also produces rPET from ocean-bound plastic for ZenWTR bottles and for other types of PET packaging.
The company has two other plants, one in California and one in Texas. It plans to open a fourth PET recycling plant near Orlando, Fla. Visit www.carbonliterecycling.com.
