  • Thailand has passed a “full prohibition” on the import of end-of-life electronics, according to an October release from the Basel Action Network (Seattle).
  • Packaging producer Sonoco Products Co. (Hartsville, S.C.) will permanently close a Yakima, Wash., thermoforming plant that uses recycled PET as feedstock, according to a notification the company filed with the state of Washington.
  • The packaging and special plastics business unit of Dow Co. (Midland, Mich.) will work with recycling and waste management firm Xiamen Luhai Pro-environment Co. (Xiamen, China), or Luhai, to recycle more of its postconsumer plastic.
  • Choosing recycled PET rather than virgin PET may reduce a company’s greenhouse gas emissions up to 60%, reduce total energy use by 75%, and reduce process and transportation energy 40%, according to an updated study from the National Association for PET Container Resources (Charlotte, N.C.).
